Brief History of Ginger

Ginger, as a common spice, has at least twenty centuries’ history. At the beginning, ginger is thought as a luxury herbal medicine for helping women in royal palace to fight with cold and flu, and then people started to harvest the ginger for selling to the rich for living. Gradually, with the increasing amount of ginger, civilian can afford ginger to use as medicine and spice. Especially in China and India, ginger is been considered as the gift from god, with the development of foreign trading, until the beginning of 2nd  century, ginger started to get popular in Europe.

 

Benefits of Ginger

Gingerol, the powerful medicine properties:

Gingerol is the main bio-active compound in the ginger. With powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidants, eating ginger, drinking with ginger, or using as spice can helps to relief the pain from joint and bone.  In one study, consuming 2 grams of ginger per day, for two weeks, results showed that ginger reduced joint pain in people with elbow exercises. So, ginger is believed that is effective to the results of study, and these results is mediated by the property of anti-inflammatory.

Ginger Powder May Significantly Reduce Menstrual Pain

One of ginger traditional use is for pain relief, include menstrual pain. In Asia, ginger is considered as “hot” food that can help people reduce and defeat the flu and fever that caused by “cold”. One of reasons of the pain during menstruate is “cold”. So, Asian woman would like to drink hot water with black sugar during menstrual cycle to relief the paining. Also a research shows that the ginger is helpful to women during the cycle. The study picked 150 woman randomly during their menstrual cycle, and half of them can have a hot tea with ginger, and another half only can have hot water. The results showed that the group with drink with ginger can help them reduce the pain during working.
